Clinicians in various sites of care are encouraged to participate in this special webinar event featuring an extended question and answer panel with the nationally known speaker, Kathleen Meehan Arias, MS, CIC and AVA clinical leaders. This session will enable clinicians to describe PICC utilization trends and associated infection risks and rates. In addition, the speaker will identify key strategies to reduce risk of CABSI when using PICCs.

The presentation will discuss how the environment of care can impact infections associated with PICCs and other long term catheters The results of PICC teams and PICC contracted service providers will be reviewed in achieving optimum device-associated outcomes. Kathleen Meehan Arias Kathleen Meehan Arias,

Kathy Arias has worked in the infection prevention and control field since 1980 and is currently the Director of Arias Infection Control Consulting, LLC. She has infection prevention and control experience in a variety of settings, including acute care hospitals, long-term care, rehabilitation care, ambulatory care and industry. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science and a Master of Science Degree in Clinical Microbiology from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. She is Certified in Infection Control by the Certification Board of Infection Control.

Kathy is the author of the APIC Tool Kit Surveillance Programs in Health Care Settings and the Jones and Bartlett Publishers textbook Outbreak Investigation, Prevention and Control in Health Care Settings: Critical Issues in Patient Safety, 2nd edition. She is the editor and an author of the APIC/Joint Commission Resources Infection Prevention and Control Workbook and the APIC Tool Kit Assessing and Developing an Infection Control Program in the Acute Care Setting. She has written journal articles and book chapters on various infection prevention topics, including the Surveillance chapter in the APIC Text of Infection Control and Epidemiology.

Kathy has taught epidemiology classes at Thomas Jefferson University and at the Medical College of Philadelphia and has served on the faculties of Penn State University and the Hahnemann University College of Allied Health Sciences. She is a frequent speaker at local, national, and international conferences.
